FEBRUARY EVENT SIGN UPS

CHAPTER TWO, PART 2: EVENT SIGN-UPS

Uh-oh.

It's here, neighborinos! We kept you in suspense for nearly a week, we teased you, we broke Plurk trying to make the original announcement, but the day is finally upon us!

That's right: sign-up day.

As we outlined in Wednesday's plotting post, we are giving players an option to volunteer their character for special plot participation for the second part of February's event. Beginning on February 10th, characters selected for participation will disappear from their houses, leaving no clues to their whereabouts nor any signs of what could have happened to them. We will only select characters to participate in this element if they have signed up, and signing up is 100% optional. What happens next and how this part of the event plays out is largely dependent on the number of sign-ups we receive.

There will be a Route A and a Route B for how the event could play out. We won’t call them Good Endings or Bad Endings — but you might.

  • To fulfill the conditions of Route A, we'll need a minimum of five characters and a maximum of ten. If we receive more than ten characters, RNG will be used to select the final candidates from the pool.
  • If we don't reach a minimum of five characters who have signed up, we will go down Route B. Characters that do sign up for special involvement will have a special impact on the event.
  • Participating characters will not be able to directly interact with the setting of Santa Rosita until February 15th, though they will have opportunities to interact with each other in a special location. Where? You'll just have to wait and see
  • For the characters that are not signed up, this isn't going to be a standard watch-and-react sort of event: it's a mission to figure out what happened to the abducted and how to get them back. As such, this next portion of the event, how it pans out, and what the long-term consequences will be your characters will be determined by player participation. After all, you can't have a rescue mission without people to rescue, right?

Now then.

During the time they are held captive, signed-up characters will undergo a series of experiments. The exact nature of them will vary from character to character, but you can generally expect surgical modifications, Tranquilization experiments, and other similar assorted body horror and trauma. Some examples include:
(highlight to read; content warning for body horror, surgery, dismemberment): organs such as kidneys, livers, lungs, etc. being removed and swapped out with natural or artificial replacements; amputation of hands, fingers, legs, feet and other non-vital limbs; potential alterations of others like tongues and eyes; surgical alteration to the face and/or other parts of the body (superficial or major); brain surgery or Tranquilization that could alter a character's perception of the world and how they interact with it.

If all of this sounds a little overwhelming, don't worry! The extent and nature of these experiments will be assessed on a player-by-player basis with all of your opt-outs and permissions taken into account when we assign them. In addition, any character alterations sustained during this event can be undone by regains obtained at the end of plot months. Characters can use their regain to request to be healed in any plot month, and alterations and injuries do not need to be healed at the end of the month they were sustained in; if you'd like to retain them for a while and heal them later, you may.

So, how do you get started and sign up? Let Chief Harding show you.

STEP ONE: Look over your Permissions and make sure all your opt-outs are up to date and any triggering material is accounted for. Just because we'll use what you tell us on this form doesn't mean we won't refer back to your Permissions in your journal too.
STEP TWO: Fill this form out, making sure to include all possible opt-outs. Err on the side of caution and give us much information as possible so we don't have to message you with questions or accidentally hit your character with something you aren't keen on playing. Take in to consideration both what you have listed on your Permissions post and what we have included as example content on this page.
STEP THREE: Wait to hear back from us. The players picked for participation will get a PM with more information on what's going to happen to their character and what they should do next.
Remember, to get to Route A, we'll need at least five sign-ups. All comments will be screened for player comfort and to preserve the mystery of what's going to happen to their characters.

But if you want to share your assignment with your friends, go for it. We won't tell you how to live.

Sign ups will close at 6:00 PM EST on Sunday, February 7th.
